Gear Demo – EHX Grand Canyon with custom light expression pedal – Carabss

EHX Grand Canyon with a custom Carabss light expression pedal from Kryptic Species Mutations

Another gear demo courtesy of the musical tinkering master and creator Kryptic Species Mutations. In this video we explore the Carabss , an expression pedal that includes a light sensor that adds some crazy expressions to your pedals and music. I also brought out the modded Craig tape deck that KSM also created that features a time-bending speed wheel.

In order to showcase the Carabss you must have a pedal that has an expression input. For this demo, I have chosen one of my favorite pedals the EHX Grand Canyon. The EHX Grand Canyon is a full-featured reverb and delay pedal from Electro Harmonix. It features a ton of reverb and delay types and works amazingly well with synths and drum machines.

If you are enjoying the Kryptic Species Mutations gear be sure to check him out on Instagram, YouTube, and his Reverb Shop! Pay attention to him as he is always creating and pushing boundaries with one of a kind homemade electronic gear. He really is something special. I’ll add his links below.

shelfblack – dawless synth jam Can’t We Just Disappear?

Can’t We Just Disappear? – dawless synth jam created using the Korg Monologue, Korg Volca FM, Korg volca keys, Korg monotron delay, Arturia Beatstep pro, Drumbrute Impact, Microfreak.

This is a new all hardware dawless jam. I started this by experimenting with the Zoom Microtrak drum loop that you hear . I slowed it down to 70 bpm and started layering the Deepmind and Microfreak. I also added in a non confrontational rhythm backing with the Korg Monologue. From there I just let different parts ride and subtracted other parts allowing myself to get lost in the song. I believe the woozy, dreamy Microfreak part makes me feel like disappearing into the world that this music creates.

If you enjoyed this jam, feel free to subscribe on youtube and continue to check this site for more updates as I create more songs and review more gear!

shelfblack – dawless hardware synth jam – Just Burn It All

Korg Monologue, Arturia Drumbrute, Microfreak, Behringer Deepmind, Korg Volca Sample, Beats, Keys, Oceans 11 reverb, Grand Canyon reverb, Beatstep pro, Korg monotron

This is a jam I put together starting with a slowed down 40 bpm minimal beat on the Arturia Drumbrute Impact. From there I layered in the Deepmind 6 with a weird, plonky key sequence, and some shimmery pad sounds from the Korg Volca FM. I also used a preset from the Microfreak to offset the Deepmind sequence and kicked it into overdrive with a blistering fireball bass line from the Korg Monologue. I made a 60 second version on Instagram and I have embedded the full version here from Youtube.

Lots of stuff going on this month. Fresh update from the Electronic Curiosity Collective Spotify Playlist . We will also be announcing the next monthly challenge on the Electronic Curiosity IG account. Thanks for tuning in! Make sure to subscribe on YouTube for more weekly content and original synth songs.
